Join the 2010 CSA

Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) is a way of purchasing food that helps build a sustainable local food system in the process. By sharing some of the risk, the work, and the commitment with the farmers, you are helping us take great steps forward in rebuilding that system here in the Charlotte region. Know Your Farms handles the marketing, administration, and delivery of the CSA shares so that the farmers can focus on growing the food.

Registration is still open.

  • Spring 2010 CSA runs from mid-April through June 2010.
  • Summer 2010 CSA runs from July through September 2010.
  • Fall 2010 CSA runs from October through December 2010.
  • Get a share based on what is seasonally available each week.
  • Base price for the CSA membership is $360 plus 2% tax.
  • On any given week limited supply may constrain delivery of a full share, but the total shares received over the season will not change.
  • Each share is designed to supplement a small family (3-4 people), typically about a bushel box of food, although volume and weight will vary.
  • Shares include vegetarian items only: vegetables, grains, fruits, nuts, and occasionally condiments or baked goods. They will be mostly vegan and mostly gluten-free, but not entirely.
  • Produce will not always come from the same farm; weekly produce suppliers will be noted on our website.
  • Primary growers are Barbee Farms and the Cabarrus County Incubator Farmers. Secondary growers include a dozen other farms in the area, and a handful, such as Anson Mills, that are a little further out.
  • Food is not necessarily organic, but is grown by farmers that seek to use sustainable methods. Profiles of the farmers are available on our website so you can know more about their methods.
  • We do not plan to deliver the week of Thanksgiving or Christmas, but may increase the size of the boxes delivered before and after to account for the skipped week.
  • Distribution will occur on Wednesdays in Concord, Davidson, Cornelius, Plaza-Midwood, South Park, and south Charlotte. Specific times and locations will be firmed up once we have all the registrations.
  • Members are responsible for picking up their share on time; failure to do so will result in your share being donated to a needy family.
  • Members are responsible for returning a box at pickup each week; failure to do so will result in a $5 fee to cover the cost and time of replacing the box.
  • Membership includes a working requirement. This means you will participate in 3-6 hours of local food system work over the 12 week period. We will get more information from you about what types of work interest you once we have received all registrations. In addition to the on-farm projects that we do each month, we'll have tasks that are specific to the CSA...things like hosting a drop location, helping to distribute boxes, or blogging about the foods we receive.
  • In the event that a life change (moving, change in income, etc.) requires you to cancel your membership, we will calculate the cost of the food already delivered and deduct that and a $150 cancellation fee from your refund.
  • We will also deliver to businesses if they have 10 employees who agree to sign up for the CSA program.  Please contact us for additional information. This is a convenient way to get your shares delivered directly to your place of work each week!
