On-Farm Work Projects

Landis Gourmet Mushrom Farm Work DayOn-farm projects provide a way for members to connect with the farms that supply their food. Because the projects are selected by the farmers, we ensure that our time working on these farms is invested well.

Each project takes a few hours to complete. Typically the projects are set up on weekends. We meet up and send teams of 4-8 people in carpools out to each farm. The farmers work alongside the club members to complete a task. During the time spent working together, club members get to connect with the farmer, each other, and the earth.

 Upcoming Work Days:

June 27th-- Wild Turkey Farms, 5-8pm

July 17th-- Barbee Farms, 5-8pm; Grateful Growers, 5-8pm

August 22nd-- Big Oak Farm, 2-5pm

September 19th-- Landis Gourmet Mushrooms, 2-5pm

October 24th-- Apple Orchard Farm, 9-12am

November 21st-- Bird Brain Ostrich Ranch, 2-5pm

These events have been so successful that many members have chosen to return to work on additional projects. Farmers have forged relationships with several members; some members have gone back to the farm later to pitch in when an extra set of hands was needed.

Collecting Manure at Gilcrest Natural FarmPast projects have included clearing limbs from fields and manning the bonfire; planting mushrooms; planting seedlings in the greenhouse; weeding; harvesting; taking down hoop houses; chasing pigs from one pasture to another; collecting and washing eggs; rewiring fences; shovelling manure; creating new garden space by layering organic matter along the length; harvesting and shelling pecans; and cleaning up at the farmers' market.
